Acne Scar Laser Treatment
Do you have acne scars? Many people, like you, with acne scars do not know what to do to reduce or eliminate their scars.
Laser treatments for acne scars have proven helpful. Two types of laser treatments are available. Ablative lasers remove the outer surface of the skin, literally burning away the outer layer of scar tissue. This stimulates the dermal collagen to reform, tighten and form a smoother surface. Some downtime at home is required to allow the skin to heal somewhat before exposure to the outside environment. Both the carbon dioxide laser and erbium YAG laser are of this variety.
Non-ablative lasers affect the dermis, the inner layers of skin, rather than the surface layer, the epidermis. There is very little damage to the outer layer of skin and no downtime for healing is required. The Smoothbeam laser provides this type of treatment. It mainly targets the sebaceous glands that produce the sebum or skin oil that is responsible for acne. Healing of the inner collagen tightens the dermis, thus reducing any visible scarring.
This video shows an actual laser treatment that causes damage to the outer layer of the skin. Some downtime will be required before this patient can resume his daily schedule.
